A phone is enough to start, and a laptop or desktop works too. You will want a steady internet connection and a quiet corner. Anything unusual about a role is explained before you commit.
Most start at 15 to 30 hours a week and move the number up or down after that. Say which window you can cover and the work is put inside it.
After the WhatsApp message to HR, two days of chat is normal and the start is usually the same week.
